                                Information

Maharshi Bhrigu is the pioneer of predictive astrology.He compiled about 500,000 horoscopes and recorded the predictions of many people.On the basis of this records and further studies,horoscope came in to existance.

Horoscope determined the quality of time (Hora).The Horoscope was based on the planetary positions of the Sun,Moon and the planets.Later on, Maharshi Bhrugu predicted and compiled different types of horoscopes, with the help of Lord Ganesha.

From these database more than 40 millions horoscopes can be made.This knowledge was given to his son,Shukra and other pupils by the Maharshi Bhrigu.

The original bhrugu Sanhita was lost during the attack on India by the northwest muslim rulers in the 12^th and 13^th centuries.The prime assets of the brahmins alongwith a section of the 'bhrugu Sanhita' were looted by them.

The Muslim rulers also destroyed the University Library where Maharashi Bhrigu's thousands of horoscopes were stored.However a small section of records of bhrugu Sanhita remained with the Brahmin community which are today available,with the brahmins,in several parts of India,like Punjab,Banaras,Meerut and Pune.

There are different editions and copies of Bhrugu Sanhita, written by different astrologers,in the name of Maharshi Bhrugu.

The referance of Bhrugu Sanhita is seen in Jatak-Skand,which shows that the the horoscope and the forecast of full life of every human being is given in this book.The prediction is according to the time, place and date of birth of a person.

There various copies of Bhrugu Sanhitawhich are very different from each other.Some contain thousands of natal charts and life-readings,by using the Sun as the ascendant.Some are based on either the natal ascendant or the horary-ascendant.

At a place in Punjab,Hoshiarpur,maximum of the horoscopes and life-readings available were based on a Prashna-Kundali or horary-chart for the time of arrival of the person.

                          The Legend

Maharishi Bhrigu was a highly learned sage, who belonged to the group of seven seers ie the Sapta Rishi Mandal. It is believed that Maharshi Bhrugu had the power to attain the perfect balance between wisdom and activity.

Once,Maharshi Bhrugu went to Vaikuntha Lok to visit Lord Vishnu,when he observed that Vishnu was pretending to be asleep,angry Bhrugu kicked on his chest and awoke him.

Lord Vishnu stood up and said," Oh Maharshi !My chest is the strongest in the world and it may have hurt your leg,so please forgive me.

Soon Bhrugu realised his mistake and apologised when Lord Vishnu forgave him. But his consort,Lakshmi(the wealth goddess),was very much disturbed with Bhrugu's behavier and she cursed Maharishi Bhrigu,that he and his brahmin community lose all the wealth.

On requesting for an apology,Lakshmi Mata suggested him to write bhrugu Sanhita containing predictions which can fetch money to the brahmins by forcasting past,present and future of the people.

The Bhrigu Rishi Temple in Bharuch was created in the honor of the Maharshi Bhrugu.The temple is situated on the banks of the river Narmada, in the city of Bharuch in Gujarat,which is a sacred temple of the Hindus.
