The Vinayakar Shrine at
Pillayarpatti is one of the oldest cave temples
of Tamilnadu. Pillayarpatti is situated between Pudukkottai and
KaraikkudiThe town of
Pillaiyarpatti is named after 'Pillayar' - the tamil name for Ganesha. Desi Vinayaka Pillaiyar.6 feet tall ,is the presiding deity here, and is portrayed with two arms and a trunk
turned on his right side.Other deities in the temple include Marudankudi
Eesar and his consort Vaadaamalar Mangai.
The temple is 1600 years old. The pillars within the shrine are of pre-Pallava
origin.Everyday, five
worships are performed.During the fourth phase of each lunar half month, Pillayar
is taken in procession around the temple in presence of hundreads of pilgrims.Ten days Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated in a big way.
