Demon Tarakasur was troubling all the gods and sages and the sages could not complete their meditations and other rituals.Sage Narada rushed to Kartikeya (Baal Skand) and explained to him about ill acts of the Demon Tarakasur.

Fumed with anger,Baal Skand first achieved the blessings of the parents,Shiva-Parvati and entered the warfield to finish Tarakasur.Kartikeya attaked the demon but no weapon could work on him and he returned unsuccessful.

Kartikeya approached Shiva for his guidence,when Shiva clarified him that he did not pray Omkar Ganesh before entering the warfield.Shiva further advised him to go to the holy shrine Ghrushneshwar and worship Omkar Ganesh.

Mata Parvati told Kartikeya that in near future he was going to be the elder brother of Omkar Ganesha.Kartikeya the Baal Skanda was very happy to know this and immediately obeyed Shiva's advise and completed one lakh(Laksha) japnaam.

Omkar Ganesh was pleased and appeared before him and applied a divine touch to the aarow and also gifted him his vehicle Peacock.With that divine arrow Kartikeya finished the demon Tarakasur and relieved all.

Omkar Ganesh appeared after one lakh(Laksha) japnaam,hence he was named as LakshaVinayak.
