Once Sage Bharadwaj was in meditation on
the bank of the river Narmada. When he opened his eyes he saw a beautiful
woman taking bath in the river water.Sage Bharadwaj was attracted by her
and had a thought getting pleasure from her.Due to this ill thought, the Sage lost all his
power and the power was absorbed by the earth.
After this the earth gave birth to a child who was bright red in colour like
an ember and was named 'Angarak'(like an ember). When he grew big he asked his
father's name. The Bhoo-Mata(Earth) disclosed that Sage Bharadwaj was his
Father. On knowing this he approached the Sage and the Sage with his divine
power recognised him as his son.
Sage Bharadwaj taught him the lessons of Vedas and
educated him with the divine knowledge.Sage further gave him the Ganesh
Mantra and advised him to pray Ganesha.
Angarak soon went to the river Narmada and started the
rigerous meditation.Ganesha was very much pleased with his sincere and
rigerous meditation.
On the fourth day, after 'Amavasya'(dark night, of month
'Magh' (Sankashti)which was Tuesday,Shree Ganesha appeared in front of Angarak in a dance
posture(Nritya Ganesh).Ganesha blessed him that the Sankashti on Tuesday
will be known by his name as 'Angaraki' and all the desires of the
devotees praying on this day will be fulfilled.
Later on,Angarak established a Ganesha shrine here and
named it as 'Mangalmoorty'.
