Biography

Sankat Mochan     Hanuman Arti    Hanuman Jayanti

Hanuman is the son of Vayu, the God of Wind.He is humble yet very brave.Hanuman's divine strength, mental discipline and spiritual purity have made him extremely popular in Hindus all over the world. Brihaspati had an attendant called Punjikasthala, who was cursed to assume the form of a female monkeywho could be reinstated if she would give birth to an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

Reborn as Anjana, she intensely worshipped Lord Shiva, who fwas pleased and granted her the boon that would release her off the curse. The god of fire,Agni, gave Dasharath, the king of Ayodhya, a bowl of divine pudding to share among his wives to have divine children, when an eagle snatched a part of the pudding and dropped it where Anjana was meditating. The god of wind,Pavan, blew the pudding to her outstretched hands.

After she had the divine pudding, God Hanuman was born, who was the incarnation of Lord Shiva as a monkey. The birth was by the blessings of God of Wind,Pavan, who thus became Hanuman's father and Hanuman is named as PavanPutra. The birth of Hanuman released Anjana from the curse. She assured him that he would never die, and said that fruits as ripe as the rising sun would be his food. Mistaking the glowing sun as his food, the divine baby leapt for it.

Indra struck him with his thunderbolt and hurled him down to earth. But Hanuman's father, Pavan carried him to the nether world, 'Patala'. As he departed from the earth, all living beings panted for air, and Brahma had to beg him to return. In order to appease him they conferred a lot of boons and blessings on his foster child that made Hanuman  immortal and super powerful.

Hanuman selected Surya, the sun god as his preceptor, and approached him with the request to teach the scriptures.Soon Hanuman became his disciple, but had to face his constantly moving guru by traversing the sky backwards at equal pace, while taking his lessons.Hanuman's miraculous concentration took him only 60 hours to master the scriptures. Surya ,the sun god asked Hanuman to assist his son Sugriva, by being his minister.

Hanuman is popular from the Indian epic,Ramayana.Sita, the wife of Prince Rama, was abducted by the demon king Ravana. Hanuman leads his army of monkeys and  builds a bridge from India to the island of Lanka, where Sita was cordoned.

Hanuman's monkey force attacked the army of demon king Ravana. And Hanuman flew Ram-Laxman on his shoulders to Lanka, the kingdom of Ravana. In the severe battle, the demon king Ravana was killed by the prince,Ram and Sita was released.
