Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to honour the birth day of the Monkey God,Hanuman, also called as the Vanar god,who is an ardent follower of God Shri.Ram. Shri. Hanuman is worshipped all over India, especially in the North region.

He was born from the Wind-God and Anjani Devi and is called "PawanPutra"(son of wind). He is also popular by the names - Pavanasuta, Marutsuta, Pavankumar, Bajrangabali,Mahavira, etc.

Shri. Hanuman is a Brahmachari(bachelor). He lived only to serve Shri Rama and spared his life for the full devotion of Shri.Ram,without expecting any returns. He was humble, brave and wise.He possessed all the divine qualities.

Hanuman, also known as 'Maruti', is the symbol of loyalty, strength and energy and has the power, to assume any desired form at any given time.He can crack the rocks, fly in the air, shake the  mountains seize the clouds. He always did impossible tasks. As known by everyone,he crossed the ocean simply by uttering Ram-Nam,he burnt the golden city of Lanka, he managed to get the Sanjeevini herb to bring the dead Lakshmana back to his life.

This festival is celebrated during the month of 'Chaitra' and as per the Gregorian calendar,it is in the month of April. From early in the morning, the devotees flock Hanuman temples to worship him.

Hanuman Jayanti is an important festival of Hindus. He is worshipped in folk tradition as a deity with the cosmic powers and the ability to vanquish any evil spirits.

The devotees visit the Hanuman temples and apply tilak of sindoor on their foreheads from the red body of Hanuman, which is supposed to be a good luck.As per the legend,Sita was applying sindoor on her fore-head,when  Shri.

Hanuman asked her the reason.Sita informed him that sindoor ensure a long life for husband. Hanuman then smeared his entire body with sindoor, in an effort to ensure Rama’s immortality.

In the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in the month of Margazhi(Dec-Jan). There it is believed that Hanuman or Anjaneya was born on Moola Nakshatra,on the new moon day (amavasya) in the month of Margazhi.

In Andhra, Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated on tenth day of bahula paksham in the month of Vaishakh(May). It is good to parayan Hanuman Chalisa on this auspicious day.

In Maharashtra, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day (purnima) of the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra.According to some religious almanacs, the birthday of Hanuman falls on the fourteenth day (chaturdashi) in the dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin.

While, according to others it falls on the full moon day in the bright fortnight of Chaitra. On this day, spiritual discourses are started at dawn,in  Hanuman temples. Hanuman was born at sunrise,so at that time the spiritual discourse is stopped and the offering of food is done and the 'Prasad' is distributed to everyone

                                                             Legend

Hanuman had successfully entered the Premises of Lanka to pass on the message of Shri. Ram to Sita. However,he was arrested by the guards and was produced before the demon king Ravana.

Hanuman said to Ravana, "I am a humble messenger of Shri Rama.By the command of Lord Rama I have come here to do his work I am fearless by the grace of Lord Rama and not afraid of death.I welcome my death it, if it comes while serving to Lord Shri.Rama.

Later on the command of the king Ravana the guards ignited the tail of Shri.Hanuman, thinking that he would be charred to death.However,Shri.Hanuman,with his flaming tail, burnt the Ravan's golden Lanka.

Hanuman releasd the God Shani, who was arrested by Ravana. In gatitude God Shani gave him the boon that whoever worships Shri. Hanuman, will be blessed by God Shani.

Lord Rama said to Shri Hanuman , "O mighty hero! You did miraculous deeds without expecting any returns. You have not expected anything at any time. You have also refused the precious garland of pearls awarded to you by Sita.

I will always remain deeply indebted to you. I give you the boon of immortal life and you will be honourd and worshipd like me.Your idol will be placed at the entrance of My temple and you will be worshipped and honoured before me. Your glory will be always sung before mine.

If anyone worships Shri Hanuman on his Jayanti,by observing the fast and reading Hanuman Chalisa and also chants the Japa of Ram-Nam,Shri Hanuman blesses with success and fulfill all the desires.
