Shri. Ramnavami occurs at the beginning of summer, Ramnavami is dedicated to the memory of Lord Rama. It occurs on the ninth day (navami).The festival commemorates the birth of Rama.Ramnavami comes in the month of March.The celebrations begin early in the morning with a prayer to the Sun .

Lord Rama is supposed to be born at mid-day,so  a special prayer is performed at mid-dayThe Sun was known as the source of energy,light and heat since ancient times. The importance of the Sun was much more in the higher latitudes from where the Aryans have migrated into India. Rama's dynasty is called as "SuryaVanshi"since their Vansh have descended from the Sun.

This could have led to the tagging on, of Rama's birthday to a festival devoted to the sun.The Sun is considered to be the progenitor of Rama's dynasty which is called the Sun dynasty (Raghukula-Raghu means Sun and Kula means familial descendant).Rama has names,Raghunatha,Raghupati, Raghavendra etc.

Rama's all names begin with the prefix Raghu which is also suggestive of a link with the Sun.. In some Hindu sects, prayers on Ramnavami day start not with an invocation to Rama but to Surya (sun).
